The High Court (HC) on Thursday (March 30) deferred the date for delivering its verdict on whether Mohammad Zahangir Alam will get back the mayoral post of Gazipur City Corporation (GCC).

An HC bench of Justice Jafar Ahmed and Justice Md Bashir Ullah set April 4 (Tuesday) to deliver its verdict.

Earlier on March 28, the hearing on the rule over the issue ended.

The High Court on August 23, last year, issued a rule asking why Jahangir Alam's suspension from the mayor post would not be declared illegal.

On November 25, 2021, Zahangir Alam was expelled from the Awami League for making derogatory comments about the martyrs of the Liberation War. 

On the same day, he was suspended from the post of GCC mayor.
