Pakistan shuts border crossings with Iran

Pakistan has closed all its border crossings with neighbouring Iran for an indefinite period, provincial officials confirmed on Monday.

Qadir Bakhsh Pirkani, a senior official in Balochistan province, told AFP that border operations in all five districts—Chaghi, Washuk, Panjgur, Kech, and Gwadar—have been suspended.

Attaul Munim, an official at one of the Chaghi crossings, said movement into Iran has been halted “until further notice.”

However, he clarified that there is “no ban on trade” across the border and Pakistani nationals in Iran will be allowed to return home.

“We’re expecting around 200 Pakistani students coming today,” Munim added.
