U.S. President Donald Trump has ordered fresh deployments of National Guard troops and Marine units to Los Angeles amid continued protests that have entered their fourth consecutive day.

The move comes as demonstrations spread across the country, with new rallies emerging against immigration authorities and federal policies.

California Governor Gavin Newsom condemned the president’s decision, calling it “deranged” and “dictatorial,” and vowed to pursue legal action to block the deployments.

“California will not be militarised for political theatre,” Newsom said in a statement, accusing Trump of escalating tensions rather than seeking resolution.

Clashes between protesters and law enforcement have been reported in several districts of Los Angeles. Security forces have used rubber bullets, stun grenades, and other non-lethal weapons to disperse crowds.

The protests were initially sparked by allegations of human rights violations by immigration enforcement agents, but have since grown into a broader movement calling for reforms in federal immigration policy and police accountability.

Trump defended his decision in a post on Truth Social, saying: “Law and order must be restored. The American people demand safety, and I will ensure it.”

Authorities have yet to release official figures on arrests or injuries, though local media report dozens of detentions and several hospitalisations.
