MYMENSINGH: A drug dealer was killed in a reported gunfight with Detective Branch (DB) of police in Bhaluka upazila of Mymensingh early on Saturday (September 14).
The deceased was named as Rubel, 30.
On being secretly informed that drugs were bought and sold at Habirbari area of the upazila, a team of DB police raided the area, Officer-in-charge (OC) of district detective police Shah Kamal Akando told Banglanews.
Sensing presence of law enforcers, the drug dealers opened fire on them. In self defense, police retaliated, triggering a gun battle. At one stage, they retreated and Rubel got wounded, OC also said.
The bullet-injured Rubel was taken to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital, but doctors declared him dead, OC added.
According to OC, 200 pieces of yaba pills and 100 grams heroin were seized from the spot.
Two police officials were also injured in the gunfight. OC claimed that Rubel was accused in seven cases.
