No newspaper will exist sans quality: Ahmed Akbar Sobhan

DHAKA: There are a good number of newspapers in our country while more are likely to come. But, none will exist without maintaining its quality. We hope the Bangla daily ‘Desh Rupantor’ will be able to do so.

Bashundhara Group Chairman Ahmed Akbar Sobhan came up with the remarks while delivering good will speech at the first anniversary programme of the daily Desh Rupantor at Rupayan Tower in Bangla Motor of the capital on Monday (Jan 20).

Ahmed Akbar Sobhan also greeted Rupayan Group Chairman Liaquat Ali Khan Mukul, owner of the newspaper, with flower bouquets. Bashundhara Group Vice Chairmen Shafiat Sobhan accompanied the Chairman Ahmed Akbar Sobhan on the occasion.

Bashundhara Group Chairman also said, “Basically we are businessmen. But we step into the media world with our only motto of branding Bangladesh. We are working relentlessly on how to brand Bangladesh.”

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is working day and night to materialise the dream of Bangabandhu’s Golden Bangladesh, he said, adding, “We hope we will be able to brand Bangladesh as a developed country in the world stage.”

Among others, Kaler Kantho Editor Imdadul Haq Milan, Banglanews24.com Editor Jewel Mazher and Kaler Kantho acting Editor Mostofa Kamal, among other high officials of East-West Media Group, were also present on the occasion.

Desh Rupantor editor Amit Habib and Publisher and Rupayan Group vice chairman Mahir Ali Khan Ratul were also present.

Later, Information Minister Dr. Hasan Mahmud cut the cake of the anniversary along with high officials of Desh Rupantor.

The minister, in his speech, said, “Eleven years ago, the number of newspapers in the country was 750, now it's over 1300. There were 10 TV channels, now the number is 34. Thousands are online. Thus the country's media has expanded significantly in the last 11 years. Desh Rupantor is a part of that advancement. I wish you (Desh Rupantor) more success.”
