Carlos Alcaraz emerged victorious in the latest chapter of his intense rivalry with Jannik Sinner, defeating the Italian in four sets to reclaim the US Open crown.
The Spaniard, who first lifted the title in 2022, delivered a commanding performance in New York, overcoming a spirited second-set comeback by Sinner to seal a 6-2, 3-6, 6-1, 6-4 win.
The final was delayed by 30 minutes due to heightened security measures prompted by the presence of US President Donald Trump.
Once play began, both players produced another captivating encounter, though it fell short of the drama and intensity seen in their French Open and Wimbledon showdowns earlier in the year.
Alcaraz, the reigning French Open champion, displayed superior serving throughout—a stark contrast to his loss against Sinner at Wimbledon—and used it to great effect in securing his second US Open title.
Now a six-time Grand Slam champion, the 22-year-old becomes the second youngest man after Bjorn Borg to achieve this feat.
His win also levels the 2025 Grand Slam tally with Sinner, who claimed the Australian Open and Wimbledon titles earlier this year.
Reflecting on their burgeoning rivalry following their fifth final meeting of the season, Alcaraz joked: “I see you more than my family. It’s great to share the court with you.”
With the win, Alcaraz also reclaims the world number one ranking from Sinner, who had held the position for 65 weeks.
Despite not being at his best for much of the contest, Sinner saved two championship points before Alcaraz capitalised on a third. The Spaniard sealed victory with a 131mph ace out wide—an apt conclusion to a tournament where his serving had been consistently dominant.
He then celebrated in trademark style, grinning and mimicking a golf swing.
