The Netherlands cricket team has expressed satisfaction with their preparations for the upcoming World Cup, despite a disappointing series result against Bangladesh.
The tour was always seen as part of their build-up to the tournament, but the side had to cope without several senior players, giving younger cricketers their first taste of international cricket in South Asian conditions.
On the field, results were hard to come by. The Dutch were convincingly beaten in the first two matches, while the final game was abandoned due to rain. Yet fast bowler Kyle Klein stressed that the experience had been invaluable.
“We played really poorly in the first two games, it’s difficult to take positives from them,” Klein admitted at a post-match press conference. “But we’re a team that loves to learn, and this will be an important lesson heading into the World Cup.”
He acknowledged the absence of experienced names but highlighted the opportunities it created. “Of course, we missed our senior players. But for the younger guys, it was a fantastic chance to prove themselves. It will also make the selection process for the World Cup squad much clearer,” he said.
While the series outcome was disappointing, the Netherlands camp is framing it as crucial preparation ahead of the global stage, hoping the lessons learned in Bangladesh will translate into stronger performances at the World Cup.
