Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan has been named in ESPNcricinfo’s all-time Asia T20 XI, becoming the sole representative from his country in the elite lineup curated ahead of the 2025 Asia Cup.
The symbolic XI, unveiled by the prominent cricket website on the eve of the T20 Asia Cup — set to begin on Monday (September 9) in the United Arab Emirates — was selected through expert panel votes to spark excitement among fans before the tournament.
The line-up features four players from India, three from Sri Lanka, two from Pakistan, and one each from Bangladesh and Afghanistan.
Sri Lankan legends Sanath Jayasuriya and Mahela Jayawardene were chosen as the opening pair. India’s Virat Kohli and Suryakumar Yadav were placed at No. 3 and 4 respectively, while former India captain and wicketkeeper MS Dhoni was named at No. 5 and also assigned leadership duties.
Shakib slots in at No. 6, recognised for his consistent contributions with both bat and ball. Pakistan’s Shahid Afridi takes the No. 7 spot, followed by Afghanistan's spin sensation Rashid Khan at No. 8.
The pace attack comprises Pakistan’s Umar Gul, India’s Jasprit Bumrah, and Sri Lanka’s yorker specialist Lasith Malinga. Pakistan’s Saeed Ajmal was named as the 12th man.
