A court in Dhaka today acquitted BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir of charges in a case filed in 2013 for obstructing police duties and attempted murder.
Dhaka Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Md Zakir Hossain passed the order following a High Court directive, BNP defence counsel Syed Joynal Abedin Mejbah told the media.
The case was originally filed by police on March 2, 2013, against 28 people, including Fakhrul, for allegedly obstructing police and attempting to commit murder. Later that year, investigators submitted a charge sheet against 21 accused, including Fakhrul.
Fakhrul’s legal team subsequently moved the High Court seeking to quash the charges against him. The court accepted the plea and ordered the charges against the BNP leader to be dropped.
