Nurul Haque Nur, president of the Gono Odhikar Parishad and former vice president of Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (DUCSU), has been admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU) of Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) after sustaining serious injuries during clashes in the capital.

Dr Mostak Ahmed, a residential physician at DMCH, confirmed the development in the early hours of Saturday (August 30).

He said Nur’s condition was critical, with multiple injuries including a fractured jawbone, brain hemorrhage, and blood clots in the eye. Nur has been placed on oxygen support at the hospital’s old building ICU.

A team of senior doctors from the neurosurgery, ENT, and ICU departments convened late Friday night to assess his condition. Another CT scan is scheduled for Saturday morning to determine whether the bleeding in his brain has worsened.

Brigadier General Md Asaduzzaman, the hospital’s director, was also present during his treatment.

The injuries occurred on Friday night (August 29) when violent clashes broke out between supporters of the Jatiya Party (JP) and Gono Odhikar Parishad in Bijoynagar.

Police intervened with force to disperse the groups. At least 50 people, including Nur and the party’s general secretary Rashed Khan, were injured in the baton charge.

Nur, who was critically hurt, was first taken to Islami Bank Hospital before being transferred to DMCH around 11 pm on medical advice.
