JP won’t join polls sans BNP

DHAKA: Jatiya Party Chairman Hussein Muhammad Ershad categorically said his party would not join in the upcoming general elections if BNP doesn`t participate in it.

He came up with the assertion while talking to his party leaders at his residence early Sunday.

Ershad said that his party would take part in election but it has to be ensured that all parties would join in the election.

Ershad also said that it was his duty to urge a 10-day extension of the election schedule for the tenth national election. By this time, the government and concerned others have to take steps to reach a consensus as BNP joins in election.

Meanwhile, he also ordered his party leaders to discuss with BNP regarding the matter.
