Bangladesh to send troops to Mecca, Medina if necessary

DHAKA: The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has said that Bangladesh will send troops for Mecca and Medina if security of the two places as well as the two holy mosques is threatened.

 

Foreign minister AH Mahmood Ali said this at a press briefing at the ministry on Thursday (May 18). State minister for foreign affairs Shahriar Alam and foreign secretary Md. Shahidul Haque also attended it.

The press briefing was arranged to brief about the upcoming Saudi Arabia visit of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

The PM is scheduled to leave Dhaka for Saudi Arabia on May 20 to join the ‘Arab Islamic American Summit’ to be held in Saudi Arabia. The summit will be held on May 21 in Riyadh.

US President Donald Trump, among others, will attend the summit. Sheikh Hasina is expected to hold meetings with Donald Trump, Saudi King and other world leaders in sideline of the summit.

AH Mahmood Ali said that the PM will also perform Umrah during her visit in Saudi Arabia. She will return to the country on May 23.
