DHAKA: Dhaka Divisional Commissioner rejected the appeal of BNP-backed Abdul Awal Mintoo, who challenged cancellation of his mayoral candidacy for Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) polls by Election Commission.

Commissioner M Zillar Rahman passed the order after hearing at his office at Segunbagicha in the capital on Saturday afternoon.

BNP standing committee member Barrister Moudud Ahmed and Jamir Uddin Sircar, among others, were present in the hearing.

On April 1, EC cancelled Mintoo’s nomination due to mistakes in the filing procedure.
