CHITTAGONG: An on-duty policeman was killed in a road mishap on Dhaka-Chittagong highway in Vatiari Taltala area under Sitakunda Upazila of the district early Saturday.

The deceased was identified as Jaane Alam, 45, an assistant Sub-Inspector of Industry Police, who was transferred to Sitakuda Thana on deputation.

Police sources said that Alam was performing duty on the highway. At one stage, a Dhaka-bound speedy truck ran over him there around 4:45am, leaving him critically injured.

He was rushed to Chittagong Medical College and Hospital (CMCH) where on-duty doctor declared him dead.

CMCH police outpost nayek Jahangir Alam confirmed the matter to banglanews.

The body has been kept at the hospital morgue, he added.
