DHAKA: At least five people were injured as miscreants blasted cocktails in city’s Shahbagh area Saturday night.

The injured were Azharul Islam, 21, a finance second year student of Dhaka University, pedestrians Jashim, 25, Awal, 35, Rentu, 32 and Rabiul, 30.

Sources told banglanews that the blasts took place around 7:45pm in front of Chhobir Haat, an open air art gallery, adjacent to Shahbagh Intersection.

Imran H Sarker, spokesperson of Ganajagaran Mancha, and also the witnesses of the blasts, said the injured were taken to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH).

Officer-in-Charge of Shahbagh Thana Sirajul Islam confirmed the matter.

Meanwhile, a youth was injured at a hotel in city’s Bakshibazar area as miscreants blasted a cocktail there.

The injured Rajib Hossain, 19, also was taken to the DMCH soon after the incident.
