Trawler sinks in Shitalakshya, 2 kids missing

NARAYANGANJ: Two minor boy and girl went missing and eight others were injured as a passenger trawler sank off the River Shitalakshya in Koilaghat of Madanganj area uner Bandar upazila on Saturday morning.

The missing toddlers are Sumaiya, 8, and Fahim, 3. Rescue operation is underway in search of them.

Quoting witnesses, Shitalakshya river police outpost Sub-Inspector (SI) Nazrul Islam told banglanews that a Comilla-bound trawler with 50 to 60 people onboard sank in the area after being hit by another sand-laden trawler there around 10:00pm.

Following the collision, some 8 to 10 passengers, including the two minors, fell into the waters. All managed to swam ashore but the two toddlers went missing.

Meanwhile, police seized the sand-carrying trawler while its master and his assistant escaped the scene.
