DHAKA: At least eight people were burnt to death and four injured in a fire that broke out at a plastic factory near Nasim Plaza in section Mirpur-1 area in the capital on Saturday evening.
Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner M Asaduzzaman Mia confirmed the matter to banglanews.
Besides, two more sustained burn injuries and two were injured due to inhaling smoky air, he added.
He further said that the fire service personnel are still searching the place.
Meanwhile, Fire Service director (operations) Major Shakil Newaz said some 20 units of Fire Service brought the blaze under control after trying frantically for 1:45 hours.
The place was very risky as there were chemicals scattered here, he added.
Director General of Fire Service and Civil Defence Brigadier General Ali Ahmed Khan told banglanews that the number of casualty might increase.
Apco Ltd machine operator Mamun said 22 men and 10 women were working when the blaze broke out.
Two injured watchmen were admitted to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital.
Another watchman of the factory Majebul told banglanews that the fire broke out as a boiler burst in the ground floor.
Sources said some 143 people used to work at the factory.
