Mannan Khan’s wife gets bail

DHAKA: A Dhaka court on Thursday granted bail to Syeda Hasina Sultana, wife of former state minister for housing and public works Abdul Mannan Khan, in a corruption case for amassing illegal wealth and concealing information about it.

Earlier in the day, she had surrendered before the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court and sought bail.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Shahriar Mahmud Adnan granted the bail upon a bond of Tk 20,000 in the afternoon.

Earlier on October 21, Nasir Uddin, the Deputy Director of Anti-Corruption Commission, lodged the case with Ramna Police Station on charge of amassing illegal wealth and concealing information about it.

Abdus Salam, an officer of ACC General Recording (GR) department in the court, confirmed the matter to banglanews.

According to the first information report (FIR) of the case, Syeda Hasina amassed around Tk 3.45 crore illegally and she concealed Tk 1.86 crore in her wealth statement submitted to the anti-graft body.

Earlier, she submitted her wealth statement to the Commission and after examining it, the ACC found that she concealed assets in her wealth statement.

ACC sources said that Mannan Khan mentioned his wife’s profession as housewife in the tenure of 10th National Parliamentary elections.

In another statement, Syeda Hasina was introduced as a fisheries businesswoman.

However, she failed to produce any logical document to the ACC about the source of her wealth.

Moreover, she was also alleged by the anti-graft watchdog for hiding information of her property.

Previously, the ACC sued Mannan Khan on allegation of amassing illegal wealth and concealing information about it.
