Pay dues by Sunday or face violent protest

DHAKA: Tuba workers threatened to enforce violent protests if the demands raised by the agitating workers are not met by Sunday.

“Clear three months’ due salaries and Eid bonus by Sunday, or our peaceful movement will turn into violent one,” workers’ leaders warned.

Garment Workers Movement Alliance leader Moshrefa Mishu informed the journalists about the warning in the morning.

Mentioning Tuba workers’ demonstration is now the movement of all the garment workers in the country, she said there that if the government and the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) thought that the workers will leave the movement just after hunger strike, they are damn fool.

At that time she also urged Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s interference in this connection.

Earlier, garment workers’ leaders on Saturday urged nation to render support to Tuba workers’ demand and spread the message of their movement across the country.

They sought the support of the nation at the protest program demanding payments of dues and Eid bonus of workers of five factories of the Tuba Group in front of Tuba garment at Badda area of the city.

The workers could not go home during the Eid holiday as they did not get three months' arrears and festival bonus.

The day before Eid-ul-Fitr, they began the fast-unto-death at that area.
