Hasina-Cameron meeting held

FROM 10 DOWNING STREET, LONDON: Bangladesh Prime Minster Sheikh Hasina held a bilateral meeting with her United Kingdom counterpart David Cameron at the 10 Downing Street at 8:30am local time (1:30pm BDST) on Tuesday.

Hasina who is now on a three-day official visit to UK to attend the Girl Summit 2014 to be held in London on the day.

Prior to the scheduled meeting the British premier handed over the World Girl Summit Chatter to his Bangladesh counterpart there. 

People closed to the Bangladesh Prime Minster’s Office, Hasina’s meeting with Cameron is being considered as an important gesture from the UK government. Especially, after the January 5 general elections in Bangladesh, the UK government showed a negative attitude to newly elected Bangladesh government.

During the hour-long meeting, which ended at 9:20am local time (2:20pm BDST) Tuesday, the heads of the governments held the talks on the development of bilateral relations. Hasina upheld the progress of her government in several sectors to the UK premier.

After the meeting, Hasina is heading toward the summit venue, to be begun at Walworth Academy on Shorncliffe Road in London at 12:00pm local time on the day.

Hasina will also hold separate meeting with UNICEF executive director Anthony Lake and UK minister of state in the Department for International Development Desmond Swayne at Walworth Academy on the day.

She also met UK shadow Foreign Secretary Douglas Alexander and a delegation of All Party Parliamentary Group of UK at her hotel room at 4:00pm and 5:00pm local time respectively.

The premier is scheduled to attend an Iftar party organized by UK unit of Awami League.

Hasina will leave London on Wednesday around 5:45m local time for Dhaka.
