Dhaka: No general diary or case has yet been filed on the fight between a special police squad and Harkat-UL-Jihad (HUJI) militants in the capital’s Jurain area, two days after the nighttime clash.

“Neither a case nor a GD was filed till Monday night,” said the investigation officer for the incident that gave rise to ruminations that the recently routed militant outfits are building their bastions on the outskirts around the capital.

Seven policemen and one suspected Islamist were wounded when HUJI cadres charged bomb and opened fire on a combined team of the US-trained SWAT (Special Weapons And Tactics) and police in the incident on Sunday night.

Police arrested the injured suspect, Abu Bakar Siddik alias Siddik, 27, from the spot, while the rest of the band sneaked out of the police ring.

Asked why no initiative has been taken yet, Aiyubur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Kadamtali thana, Tuesday didn’t say a single word about the follow-up action.

Meanwhile, police sources said, a Detective Branch team has begun the investigation. But nothing was disclosed on the outcome so far.
