A massive fire erupted at a garment factory in Savar’s Ashulia area on Monday (Oct 6) afternoon, prompting nine units of the Fire Service to rush to the scene to bring the blaze under control.
The incident occurred around 12:15 pm at Ayesha Clothing Limited, located near Jamgora on the Tongi–Ashulia–EPZ road. No casualties have been reported so far.
According to factory workers, around 4,100 employees work at the facility. The fire is believed to have started on the second floor around noon, when workers first noticed smoke and flames. The alarm spread quickly throughout the factory, and all gates were immediately opened to allow workers to evacuate safely.
A Fire Service official confirmed that the blaze broke out at Ayesha Clothing Limited, a concern of the Palmal Group.
The fire service received the call at 12:19 pm and arrived on site at 12:38 pm, deploying nine units to combat the flames, he added.
Sabuj Islam, duty officer at the Jirabo Fire Station, told Banglanews that three of their units were actively engaged in the firefighting effort.
“So far, no casualties have been reported. Further details will be shared later,” he said.
Similarly, the duty officer at DEPZ Fire Station stated that their team received the fire alert at 12:19 pm and immediately dispatched three units. As the fire intensified, three more units from Jirabo joined the operation.
Deputy Director of Fire Service Zone-4, Alaudddin, confirmed that a total of nine units — three each from DEPZ and Jirabo Fire Stations — were working to bring the fire under control. “Efforts are ongoing, and further details will be provided once the situation stabilises,” he said.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
