Members of Indian Border Security Force (BSF) have pushed in three Bangladeshi nationals, including women and children, along with 13 Rohingyas through the Kumarshail border in Barlekha upazila of Moulvibazar.
Following the push-in, members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) detained them from the tea garden area of the Kumarshail border under the jurisdiction of the Bianibazar battalion (52 BGB) on Wednesday (August 27).
However, the detainees have been later handed over to Barlekha police station after preliminary identification.
According to sources, BGB members detained 16 people, including women, men and children, from the tea garden area of the Kumarshail border on Tuesday around 9:00am while they were wandering aimlessly.
Lieutenant Colonel Md Ariful Haque Chowdhury, commanding officer of BGB-52, said primary interrogation revealed that among the detainees 13 were Rohingyas and three were Bangladeshis. After confirming their identities, they were handed over to Barlekha police.
Barlekha police station officer-in-charge (OC) Mahbubur Rahman Molla said BGB handed over the three Bangladeshis and 13 Rohingyas, who had been pushed in by BSF.
The families of the Bangladeshis have been informed and they will be released into their custody, while necessary legal action is being taken regarding the Rohingyas, he added.
