At least three people, including two women and a child, were killed and seven others injured in a head-on collision between a passenger bus and a covered van in Ramu upazila of Cox’s Bazar on Monday (June 16) morning.
The accident occurred around 8:00 am in the Rashid Nagar area on the Chattogram-Cox’s Bazar highway, said Md Nasir Uddin, officer-in-charge of the Ramu Highway Police.
All the victims were passengers of the Cox’s Bazar-bound bus operated by Purabi Paribahan, he added.
According to police, the bus was travelling towards Chattogram when it collided with a covered van coming from the opposite direction. The impact of the crash caused the bus to veer off the road and plunge into a roadside ditch, while the van crashed into a tree.
“Three passengers died on the spot. Seven others were injured and have been taken to nearby hospitals,” OC Nasir said.
The identities of the victims have not yet been confirmed.
Both drivers reportedly fled the scene following the accident.
Police said efforts are underway to recover the two vehicles and trace the drivers.
