The government has allocated Tk 2,956 crore in the proposed national budget to support the Election Commission in holding the next general election in a free and fair manner.

Finance Adviser Salehuddin Ahmed made the announcement during his budget speech on Monday. 

Of the total, Tk 2,727 crore is from the revenue budget and Tk 229 crore from the development budget.

He said reforms and updated voter lists are in place, with GIS technology being used to ensure transparency.
