BGMEA election underway at two centres

Voting is underway in the biennial elections of the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) to elect its new Board of Directors for the 2025–27 term.

The election began at 8:00 am and will continue uninterrupted until 5:00 pm at two polling centres in Dhaka and Chattogram, according to BGMEA officials.

In Dhaka, voting is taking place at the Radisson Blu Water Garden Hotel, where 1,561 voters are expected to cast their ballots. In Chattogram, 303 voters are eligible to vote at the designated polling centre.

Two panels—Forum and Sammilita Parishad—are contesting this year for 35 positions on the BGMEA Board of Directors.

Mahmud Hasan Khan Babu, Managing Director of Rising Group, is leading the Forum panel, while Md Abul Kalam, Managing Director and CEO of Chaity Group, is heading the Sammilita Parishad panel.

The BGMEA, which represents the country’s export-oriented ready-made garment (RMG) industry, plays a key role in policy advocacy, labour rights, and global trade negotiations.

Election results are expected to be announced after the vote counting concludes later this evening.
