Gold prices in Bangladesh have reached a new record, with the Bangladesh Jewellers Association (BAJUS) increasing the rate of 22-carat gold to Tk 197,576 per bhori (11.664 grams) after a fresh hike of Tk 2,192.
The new rates will be effective from Sunday, according to a BAJUS press release issued Saturday night.
Following the revision, 21-carat gold will be sold at Tk 1,88,595 per bhori, 18-carat at Tk 1,61,651, and traditional gold at Tk 1,34,253.
BAJUS said that the hike was driven by a rise in the price of pure gold in the local market. Buyers are required to pay the government-fixed 5% VAT, along with a minimum 6% making charge set by BAJUS, which may vary depending on jewellery design and quality.
The previous record was set on September 29, when 22-carat gold was priced at Tk 1,95,384 per bhori, effective from September 30.
