DHAKA: 339 people were killed and 1,265 others injured in 277 road crashes occurred during the holidays of Eid-ul-Fitr, said an observatory platform for passengers’ welfare Friday (June 29).

Secretary General of the platform --‘Bangladesh Jatri Kalyan Samity’ Md Mozammel Haque Chowdhury published the survey, at a press briefing at the auditorium of Dhaka Reporters’ Unity.

As many as 277 accidents took place in 13 days-- since June 11 the beginning day of Eid journey to June 23, leaving 339 persons killed and 1,265 others injured, Mozammel said.

At the same time, 25 persons were killed and 9 others injured in 18 accidents in the naval routes. 

A total of 41 persons were killed after being crushed under train, hit by the train and also falling off the roof of train, finds the survey.

However, Bangladesh Jatri Kalyan Samity made the survey following monitoring the reports published on national and regional dailies and online news portals.

Human rights activist Advocate Sultana Kamal, Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) Former Chairman Habibur Rahman and Tenants’ association President Baharan-A-Sultan Bahar, among others, were present at the briefing.
