Court orders seizure of Benazir’s daughter’s Dubai assets

A Dhaka court today ordered the confiscation of property and money belonging to Tahseen Raisa Binte Benazir, daughter of former police chief Benazir Ahmed, in Dubai.

The ruling, passed by Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Zakir Hossain Galib, came in response to a petition filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).

According to the ACC, Tahseen owns an apartment in Dubai valued at 4 million dirhams (approximately Tk 13.2 crore) and has AED 144,497 (about Tk 47.6 lakh) deposited in two financial service accounts.

The ACC said the assets were allegedly acquired in collaboration with her father and are beyond her known sources of income.

The ACC informed the court that it is currently investigating a graft case involving Tk 5.59 crore, believed to have been amassed unlawfully.

As part of the investigation, the commission requested the seizure of Tahseen’s Dubai assets.

The court granted the request and directed that a copy of the order be sent to the Chairman of Dubai Land Department and the Group CEO of Emirates NBD, a major financial institution in the UAE, to take necessary action.
