Two Bangladeshi nationals were detained by India’s Border Security Force (BSF) from the Biral border area in Dinajpur, prompting locals to capture two Indian nationals in response.
The incident occurred around 11:30am on Friday (May 2) near sub-pillar 10 of main pillar 320 along the Dharmajain border in Dharmapur Union of Biral upazila.
Dharmapur Union Parishad Chairman Nur Islam and Biral Police Station Sub-Inspector Kawsar confirmed the matter.
The two Bangladeshis taken by the BSF were identified as Enamul Islam, 50, and Masud, 15, both residents of Dharmapur Union. In retaliation, locals captured two Indian citizens — Abinash Tudu and Philip Soren.
According to locals, Enamul and Masud were harvesting and threshing paddy near the border when BSF personnel picked them up and took them across the border.
In protest, villagers detained the two Indian nationals and later handed them over to members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) when they arrived at the scene. The two Indians are now in BGB custody.
No official statement was issued by the BGB regarding the incident.
