DHAKA: A Dhaka court has awarded death sentence to a man and his lover for killing his wife Shamima Akhter Happy in Keraniganj.

Dhaka District and Sessions Judge SM Kuddus Zaman passed the order on Tuesday (Nov 28)

The death row convicts are Mukul Hossain Molla, son of one Abdul Wazed Molla of Sheikhpara village under Boalmari thana in Faridpur and her lover Lovely Akhter Nilufa. 

On Jan 8 in 2012, police recovered an unidentified woman’s body, cut into three pieces, from under Alipur Itbhata bridge in Keraniganj of Dhaka. Later SI Golam Sarwar, as plaintiff, filed a case against unknown accused. 

In the meantime, Mukul filed a General Diary (GD) with Savar police station mentioning his wife as missing. Based on Mukul’s suspicious behavior, police integrated him and he confessed to the crime.

On Jan 28, Mukul gave a confessional statement before court. 

According to the statement, Lovely Akhter Nilufa and he had an affair before his marriage with Shamima. The relationship continued for some time but Nilufa could not tolerate Shamima. On Jan 7, they killed Shamima and cut the body into three pieces. Later they dumped the body under the bridge.
