DHAKA: Online shopping is getting more popular with the pace advancement in cyber world. Despite all necessary items, some people are signing up for the sites to buy pet birds.
Alluring advertisement for selling birds at cheap price, a circle of swindlers is making profit out of people’s innocence and habit.
Purchase process starts from sending an amount price to the online bird sellers in advance. Later, the rest amount is demanded without even exchange of birds.
If purchasers refused to pay the rest price, bird sellers adopt various types of cunning methods to swindle money out of them. For example, stealing photos from facebook IDs and then uploading them in porn sites with phone numbers.
The purchasers are humiliated with phone calls, especially female customers after falling into their trap.
On Thursday (November 17), Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) detained a swindler, identified as Kamal Biswas, 35, from city’s Shewrapara area who revealed sensational details of this process after investigation.
A victim, identified as Jyotirmoy Chakraborty, who is an employee of a private bank, told Banglanews that his wife wanted to buy three pairs of foreign birds at the cost of Tk.33, 000 from a facebook post.
She was asked to send money through a bKash number after making contact at the given phone number. She duly sent Tk 3000. Thereupon, they informed her that the birds were going to be sent from Bajitpur.
Later, the sellers demanded more money to be sent to their numbers to get birds. At one stage, husband intervened and refused to send money.
The sellers also abused them verbally, using obscene language, and lots of threats. The couple’s pictures and phone numbers were uploaded in 8 to 10 porn sites. As a result they started having phone calls one after another.
Later, the couple lodged a General Diary (GD) with Shahbag Police Station. Phones were switched off at police recommendations.
Online bird businessman Hasan Raj told Banglanews that swindlers use facebook or Bikroy.com while lowering the price half or oven less than that. Address is used outside Dhaka as a form of deceit to convince customers to go for bKash. Following first stage of payment, the circle blackmailed to get money.
PBI Special Police Super (SS) Ahsan Habib Palash told Banglanews that a cheat named Komol was detained with two laptops and four mobile phones, the rest ones involved with the crime will be detained too.
Police official advised people to be aware of such deceit, in various forms like Facebook group, page, using fake images.
