DHAKA: The ruling Awami League submitted its income-expenditure statement to the Election Commission Tuesday, under a mandatory rule for straightening politicos’ account.
Party Deputy Office Secretary Mrinal Kanti Das submitted the statement to the EC Joint-secretary Nurul Islam Khan, in a rather belated compliance with the law made through political reforms initiated following the past crisis.
“We submitted the information on party income-expenditure as per Representation of the People (Amended) Order (RPO),” said Mrinal.
He wouldn’t divulge the details of the amounts earned and spent in running the party and fighting elections.
The general secretary can reveal the information, including the amounts, if necessary, after the examining of the statement by the EC, Mrinal said.
Terming the submission of the AL financial statement ‘a good practice’, Election Commissioner Sohul Hossain said, “The political parties will be respectful to the law in future through the practice.”
Registered political parties, including the AL and the main opposition BNP, had taken time extensions for submitting their accounts.
