DHAKA: The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) on Sunday (Jan 19) submitted a charge sheet with a Dhaka court against its suspended director Khandaker Enamul Basir and DIG Mizanur Rahman in a case filed on charges of taking and giving bribe. 

ACC director Sheikh Md Fanahfillah submitted the charge sheet before Judge KM Imrul Kayes of Metropolitan Sessions Judge's Court of Dhaka this morning.

The court set February 9 for further hearing on the case, said ACC inspector Aminul Islam to Banglanews.

Earlier on January 12, the anti-graft body approved the charge sheet against them in the same case.

On July 16, 2019, the ACC has approved the case filed against them over a Tk 40 lakh bribery allegation. 

According to the charge sheet, Enamul Basir took Tk 40 lakh in bribes from Deputy Inspector General of Police Mizanur Rahman, to ensure impunity for him.

Basir also demanded a gas-fuelled car as a gift from the DIG.

Earlier on June 10, Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has suspended its Director Khandaker Enamul Basir on charge of leaking official information to DIG Mizan, breaching code of conduct and possessing illegal wealth.

Later, the ACC appointed another director, Manzur Morshed, to investigate the allegation of amassing wealth by the police official.

Earlier in January of 2018, DIG Mizanur Rahman was withdrawn for allegation of forcefully marrying a banker woman and keeping the relationship status secret.

In May last year, the ACC had launched an enquiry into the DIG and tasked Basir with the enquiry into Mizan’s wealth.

Mizanur later provided the media with the audio clips of the alleged mobile phone conversations between him and Basir to save himself through giving the bribes to the ACC official.
