Couple among 3 killed in Bogura lightning strikes

BOGURA: Three persons, including a couple, died from lightning strikes at separate places in Sariakandi upazila on Thursday (August 22) afternoon.

Two others, including a schoolgirl, suffered injuries in the lightning strikes. Five cows also died in the same incident.

The deceased were identified as Amirul Islam, 40, a resident of Dakatmara Char, his wife Fahima Begum, 30, and Sumon, 32, son of Tohsin of Batia Char in the same upazila. 

Lightning strikes hit Amirul and his wife while they were returning home with their cattle from Dakatmara Char, leaving them dead on the spot, Al Amin, officer in-charge of Sariakandi Police Station, told Banglanews. 
  
Additionally, thunderbolt struck Sumon while he was washing jute in Batia Char area, leaving him critically injured.

Later, Sumon was rushed to Sariakandi Upazila Health Complex where duty doctor pronounced him dead.

Besides, lighting strike hits Tania Kathun, a class-X student of Nizamuddin High School, on her way to home from school at Kutubpur union, leaving her injured.  At the same time, thunderbolt struck Sumon, 21, son of Tabibur Rahman Fakir of Sariakandi municipality, leaving him injured. 

Both of them are now undergoing treatment at upazila health complex, the OC added.
