DHAKA: Truck owners and workers are set to stop transportation of all commodities indefinitely from 6 am Wednesday (Nov 20) countrywide demanding amendments to the newly enacted Road Transport Act 2018.

Bangladesh Truck-Covered Van Owners Workers Oikya Parishad came up with the announcement at a press conference held at its office in Tejgaon in the capital Tuesday (Nov 19) morning.

Convener of the body Rustam Ali Khan said that they will enforce the strike to press home our 9-point demand including amendments to the new transport law.

On October 22, the Road Transport and Highways Division issued a gazette, stating that the Road Transport Act (RTA) would be effective from November 1. Parliament had passed the RTA in September last year, replacing the Motor Vehicle Ordinance, 1983.
