Pakistan Won The Test by 8 Wickets.
Player of the Match: Abid Ali

Pakistan ridding on yet another milestone setting century opening partnership (second in the same test ) between Abid Ali ( 133 &91) and debutant Asadullah Shafique ( 52 and 73) comfortably won the Chattogram test by 8 wickets. Pakistan winning the 1st test against Bangladesh eventually proved the gulf of difference in strength, quality and character of the two test teams. Bangladesh can be credited that with two batsmen , one and a half bowlers of international class they could take the match to day five .They could also create some contest taking first innings lead and at some stage looked good for presenting a competitive target. But poorly prepared Bangladesh team have inadequate technique and skills for playing top class pace bowling and grossly inadequate bowling resources led them to succumb to huge defeat. Conceding (0-1) lead in the two matches series a comprehensive white wash now looms large .

Cricket adoring Bangladeshi enthusiasts thought much better planning , well thought strategy and better selection of team after disastrous performance of Bengal tigers in T20 world cup. Against a very powerful Pakistan team they did reasonably well in the three matches T20 series although getting white washed. We know Tamim and Shakib were unfit, Taskin and Saifuddin were not available. Mahmudullah also announced retirement. But against a very strong Pakistan pace bowling unit Bangladesh appeared with a very weak top order ( technically and skill wise ) and long tail. Excepting Mushfique and Liton none of the batmen had any credentials or experiences of playing well in test cricket. The team also appeared with only four frontline bowlers. Ebadat and Rahi did very little on a wicket where Shaheen Afridi and Hasan Ali teased and tormented Bangladesh batting. Only Taijul with marathon bowling 72.4 Overs ( 44.4 +28) took 8/205 .Mehedi Miraj gave him some support. Bangladesh badly missed the absence of a 5th experienced bowler ( a third spinner)

In both the innings Bangladesh top order got blown away by top quality Pakistan attack. Saif Hasan , Shadman Islam , Nazmul Shanto and Mominul Haq looked pretty ordinary. In the first Innings Bangladesh was reduced to 49/4 in the first session. In the second they were tottering at 4/25. Bangladesh batsmen simply did not have the skill , technique or temperament for playing against fast ,moving deliveries of Shaheen Afridi and Hasan Ali. However, in the first Innings Bangladesh was kept in the contest by a brilliant 5th wicket partnership(206)  by two T20 series discards Mushfiqur Rahim ( 91) and Liton K Das ( 113). 330 runs that Bangladesh scored was a good competitive score considering a poor start and the long tail. Hasan Ali (5/51) was the main tormentor. Pakistan made a solid response moving to 114/0 in the quality opening partnership of Abid Ali ( 133) and Asdullah Shafique (52) .But tireless Taijul ( 7116) bowling marathon spell of accurate left arm spin in 44.4 engineered Pakistan conceding 44 runs lead.

Bangladesh was again tormented in the second innings by Pakistan pace losing 4/25 on day three. This time Mushfique -Liton partnership did not work. Though Liton played yet another gritty innings of 59, six batsmen (5 scoring duck) contributing only 1 run together led to Bangladesh setting up a target of 202 for Pakistan. Shaheen taking 5/32 was the main destroyer.

Abid Ali (91)  and Asadullah Shafique (73)  again made merry. Their first wicket partnership producing 151 almost won the match by 10 wickets. However, Taijul and Mehidy taking a wicket each could a little symbol of respect. Azhar Ali and Babar Azam had good look at Bangladesh bowling. Bangladesh went down by 8 wickets. Abid and Asad walked in to record book featuring the second incident of first wicket century partnership of the same test. Asadullah Shafique also becoming the second player doing that in the debut test.

Bangladesh has a task at hand .In three days they have to work out a better team combination. Shakib would be hopefully back. Bangladesh needs shorting out top order batting. Neither Saif nor Shadman deserves their spot. We are not sure whether Yasir Rabbi would recover on time. Bangladesh must not risk playing again with four front line bowlers. The Dhaka test would be played in the month of December . A comprehensive white wash to Pakistan on the month of victory ( specially when the celebration of golden jubilee of Independence would be concluded) would hurt all patriotic Bangladeshis.
