Top seed Aryna Sabalenka and defending champion Iga Swiatek continued their dominant runs at Roland Garros, both advancing to the fourth round with straight-set victories.
Belarusian Sabalenka, chasing her maiden French Open crown, overpowered Serbia’s Olga Danilovic 6-2, 6-3 on Court Philippe Chatrier. The world number one, now into her 10th straight Grand Slam second week, has conceded just 10 games in three matches and will next face American Amanda Anisimova.
“When I’m on court, I become a different person—focused, aggressive, all-in,” said Sabalenka, praising her team for their support. “Off the court, we’re like a family. Their belief fuels my performance.”
After a quarter-final exit last year to teenager Mirra Andreeva, Sabalenka has returned to Paris with renewed intent. Her transformation—from leading the tour in double faults two years ago to being a title favourite—has been shaped by coaching refinements, mental health support, and biomechanical improvements.
Meanwhile, Poland’s Swiatek, the reigning queen of clay, extended her impressive record at the French Open. The four-time champion overcame a spirited effort from Romania’s Jaqueline Cristian, winning 6-2, 7-5 in just under two hours. She will face 12th seed Elena Rybakina next.
“It was tough in the heat, but I’ve learned to adapt—adjusting strings and equipment helps,” Swiatek said.
Elsewhere, Jasmine Paolini eased past Yuliia Starodubtseva 6-4, 6-1, and will meet Elina Svitolina, who ousted American Bernarda Pera.
China’s rising star Zheng Qinwen also marched into the last 16, defeating Canada’s Victoria Mboko 6-3, 6-4. She next faces Liudmila Samsonova of Russia.
With the top contenders in commanding form, the battle for the Coupe Suzanne-Lenglen promises high drama in the coming rounds.
