Police arrested five persons in a case filed over gang-raping a woman after throwing her husband off the bus in Gazipur on Saturday (August 6).

The arrestees are Rakib Molla (23), son of Ali Akbar of Daripara village at Araihajar in Narayanganj, Suman Khan (20), son of late Sanwar of Gupirjhupa village at Netrakona district, Sajib (23), son of late Kafil of Kanthalkachari village at Trishal in Mymensingh district, Shahin Mia (19), son of Tula Mia of Bildola village at Haluaghat of the same district and Suman Hasan (22), son of late Noor Alam of Khan Mohammadpur village at Rupsa in Khulna district.

According to the case statement, the victim and her husband boarded the bus from Bhogra to go to Sreepur. At Hotapara, two of the passengers got off the bus while two or three people got on the bus near the Maona flyover. After a while, the remaining passengers of the bus started torturing the victim’s husband. At one stage they threw him off the bus and violated the woman.

They also snatched the victim’s mobile phone and money, it added.

Gazipur District Police Additional Superintendent of Police (Crime) Mohammad Sanowar Hossain confirmed the matter on Saturday night.

He said the victim has been sent to Gazipur Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmad Medical College Hospital for medical examination.
