DHAKA: The water-levels in the rivers Teesta, Jamuna and Brahmaputra have risen by at least 10-21 centimeter above the danger mark on Sunday due to heavy rain and onrush of hill water.
Since morning, water of river Teesta started crossing the danger mark that pushes flood control dam spar-2 at risk while water-level at different points of the rivers Brahmaputra and Jamuna has crossed the danger level since noon.
Due to increase of water and the surge of upstream water from the hills, water of three rivers is flowing over danger marks, inundating over 20-25 villages under Patgram, Kaliganj, Aditmari, sadar upazila of Lalmonirhat district.
Many houses have been submerged in the area due to increase of Teesta water. The administration is trying to control additional water flow, unlocking 44 gates of the Teesta Barrage.
Besides, three flood control dams are at risk due to unusual rise of water level.
Teesta Barrage Dalia Water Development Broad Executive Engineer Mahfuzur Rahman confirmed the matter to banglanews.
Gaibandha correspondent reports that water level at different points of the rivers Brahmaputra and Jamuna started flowing above 21 centimeters of the danger mark at noon.
One kilometer of Singria-Ratanpur flood control dam has already collapsed due to additional pressure of water.
Geotextiles are being used to prevent collapse of two sides of Singria-Ratanpur flood control dam of Phulchhari in Gaibandha, said authorities concerned.
People have already been shifted to safer places in the affected areas as many houses, crop lands and roads are submerged due to rise of water.
