BHOLA: Eight people died after a trawler, carrying 50 passengers, had capsized in the Meghna River due to heavy storm in Manpura Upazila of the district on Thursday.
Locals said they recovered the eight bodies in phases with the help of fishermen. Of them, five were children while three others women.
However, Manpura Thana officer-in-charge (OC) Humayan Kabir did not confirmed the matter yet.
The trawler, coming from Kolatoli, was heading towards Manpura. At one stage, the trawler sank off the mid Meghna around 11:45am. Many passengers went missing.
The police and fire service teams have been working to rescue the missing persons and the trawler since noon.
