DHAKA: India premier Narendra Modi on Sunday received Bangladesh’s Award of Liberation War Honour on behalf of former PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee.
Expressing his gratitude to Bangladesh government Modi said, ‘It’s a moment of great honor and pride for me and the people of India’.
He further said, ‘It is an inspiration for so many people like me, Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee is being honored by Bangladesh’.
‘If Atal ji's health permitted and he was present here, this occasion would be very different,’ Modi opined.
Earlier at 12:40pm, Narendra Modi arrived at Bangabhaban and met President Abdul Hamid.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina also attended the function.
Earlier in the morning, the India PM visited the Ramakrishna Mission and Dhakeshwari National Temple in city.
Modi offered puja at both places and exchanged greetings with the priests and devotees for a while.
