DHAKA: The Foreign Ministry summoned Myanmar Ambassador to Dhaka Myo Myint Than Friday afternoon.
He was summoned to protest the divisive remark of Rakhine minister on Bangladesh delivered in a diplomatic briefing at Naypyidaw.
Recently, a Rakhine minister in a diplomatic briefing at Naypyidaw said Bangladesh’s poor socio-economic conditions forcing people to migrate illegally.
The foreign ministry has conveyed to Myo Myint Than that such remark can put at risk the joint efforts of two neighboring nations to stop the migration crisis.
A senior officer of Foreign Ministry told banglanews that Myanmar Ambassador was invited to take a cup of tea. During the time, we inquired about present situation of his country, including Rohingya issue as well as Bangladesh stance was conveyed to him.
“Besides, Bangladesh protested the remark of its minister. But, it was not lone issue to call him at the ministry. Our stance on different issues recently occurred has been cleared to the ambassador”, the officer added.
Myanmar envoy went to ministry around 3:00pm and held a meeting with additional secretary Mizanur Rahman, said sources concerned.
