DHAKA: Five suspected members of human traffickers’ gang, including one from Mirpur area with 17 Bangladeshi passports and cheque of Tk 9-crore, have been detained from different places of the country on Friday.
The detainees were identified as Tanim Islam Chowdhury Kiron, 40, Hosne Ara Begum Reshmi, 33, wife of Ali Akbar of Khondakar para area in Maheshkhali upazila, Mohammad Mostafa, 27, son of late Fazal Ahmed and Mohammad Alam, son of Mohammad Istiak of Kutupalong village in Ramu Upazila of Cox’s Bazar and Abdul Haque, 31,.
In capital, Rapid Action Battalion-3 (RAB) detained Kiron from Pirerbagh area of Mirpur along with 17 Bangladeshi passports and cheque of Tk 9-crore in the morning.
Acting on a tip off, they conducted a drive in the area and detained Kiron, RAB-3 operation officer Saiful Islam Saif told banglanews at noon.
The law enforcers also recovered the passports, cheques, huge documents including documents on medical check-up.
The detainee also confessed his guilt saying that he is involved in human trafficking for long time.
In Cox’s Bazar, a woman, Reshmi, was detained from Khondakarpara area in Maheshkhali upazila of the district around 10:00am.
Officer-in-charge (OC) of Maheshkhali Thana Alamgir Hossain told banglanews that being tipped off, they conducted a drive in the area and detained her.
Reshmi would be sent to the court after filling a case against her under Human Trafficking Act, the OC added.
Besides, police detained two other traffickers, Mostafa abd Alam, from Kutu Palong area in Ramu Upazila of the district in the morning.
Legal actions will be taken against them, Ramu Thana OC Mohammad Abdul Mazid confirmed told banglanews.
In Chittagong, a team of RAB detained Abdul from Bahaddarhat area of the port city around 2:30pm.
RAB-7 deputy director Major Jahangir Alam confirmed the matter to banglanews.
