SIRAJGANJ: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina termed Rabindranath Tagore as the poet of nature, humanity and love and Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman as the poet of politics.
The premier was addressing a program on the occasion of 154th birth anniversary of Bishwakobi Rabindranath Tagore, organized by cultural affairs ministry at Shahjadpur Pilot High School ground in Sirajganj on Friday.
The premier further said Rabindranath established the status of the Bangali language and literature at the international level while Bangabandhu hold Bangalee’s heads high on the world stage.
Bangabandhu was extensively influenced by Rabindranath. Particularly the patriotic songs and poems of Rabindranath encouraged and inspired the father of the nation in his political carrier, Sheikh Hasina added.
She also said Sheikh Mujib selected “Amar Sonar Bangla, Ami Tomar Bhalobasi” composed by Rabindranath as national anthem before the liberation war in 1971.
Rabindranath visited Shahjadpur to look after his jamidari but unlike other jamidars he never tried to stock up his treasury rather he introduced soft loan in this region," she said.
The Prime Minister said Rabindranath donated 4,500 bighas of his own land to farmers for using as the grazing ground for cattle.
The Awami League government has taken maximum initiative to save the memories of Rabindranath.
Rabindra University has begun its journey at Shahjadpur Upazila with the laying of foundation stone by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
After laying the foundation stone country’s 35th public university, she also declared that another university naming Rabindranath Tagore will be established in Kushtia.
She also inaugurated the project of promoting Sirajganj 150MW Gas Turbine Power Plant into 225MW Combined Cycle, a newly built regional passport office, Institute of Marine Technology, district registrar’s office, 250MW Extended Power Combined Circle and Sheikh Russell Children Park.
Health minister Nasim, education minister Nurul Islam Nahid, cultural affairs minister Asaduzzaman Nur and Professor Emeritus Anisuzzaman were, among others, present in the program.
