Rubel case shifted to tribunal

DHAKA: Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal-5 will now deal the rape case filed against cricketer Rubel Hossain as it has been transferred from Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court on Monday.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Ashok Kumar Dutta passed the order in the morning.

The court was scheduled to hold a hearing on the report on Monday (April 13).

The Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal-5 will hear the charge-sheet submitted by police seeking cricketer Rubel Hossain's exemption from the rape charges.

Earlier on April 6, police submitted charge-sheet seeking acquittal of pacer Rubel Hossain in a much-talked rape case filed by his former girlfriend and actress Naznin Akhtar Happy.

Police, in the final report, said that they found no proof of the charges, brought by the 19-year-old actress against 25-year-old Rubel.

Tejgaon Victim Support Centre inspector Halima Khatun submitted the probe report to Chief Magistrate Court.

On December 13 last year, the actress filed the case under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act, accusing the fast bowler of backing off from marriage after being intimate with her for months.

However, Rubel made his debut in international cricket in 2009 and has so far appeared in 22 Tests, 53 ODIs and 11 Twenty20 internationals.
