‘Equality key to Teesta water sharing deal’

DHAKA: Indian High Commissioner in Dhaka Pankaj Saran on Thursday commented the Teesta water sharing agreement should be signed in a way that satisfies all stakeholders of both sides.

He came up with the remark while addressing ‘DCABtalk’ meeting, organized by Diplomatic Correspondents’ Association of Bangladesh (DCAB) at National Press Club in city.

Pankaj Saran said, “India committed to Bangladesh regarding Teesta water sharing agreement and land boundary pact. The Teesta accord will be signed on basis of equality — as both countries can be satisfied and benefited”.

“The contract clauses should be accepted by all stakeholders”, he added.

According to the Indian envoy, the Teesta agreement has been made more progress following the visit of Indian state West Bengal’s chief minister Mamata Banerjee to Bangladesh.

DCAB president Masud Karim and general secretary Bashir Ahmed, among others, were present at the discussion.
