DHAKA: Law minister Anisul Huq said death row convict war criminal Mohammad Kamaruzzaman has only few hours in his hands to seek presidential mercy for his wartime crimes.
“Then the verdict will be executed soon,” the minister said at 2:00pm Monday, hours after the Appellate Division’s rejection of Kamaruzzaman’s review petition filed against the verdict that sentenced his death penalty.
Regarding the verdict, the minister said the government is satisfied as the apex court has upheld the death sentence rejecting Kamaruzzaman’s review petition.
Earlier on Monday morning, the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court Monday upheld the death penalty to war criminal and Jamaat-e-Islami leader Muhammad Kamaruzzaman rejecting his review petition.
The four-member bench of the division led by Chief Justice Surendra Kumar Sinha announced the verdict on the review petition filed challenging the death penalty for the war crimes convict.
