1 killed in nor’wester in Rajshahi

RAJSHAHI: An unidentified beggar was killed and many houses damaged as a nor’wester lashed in the district Saturday afternoon.

Law enforcers recovered the body from ‘Old Folklore Chattar’ of Rajshahi University in the evening.

Banglanews correspondent reported that the nor’wester lashed in the upazilas of the district at 70/80KM speed around 5:00pm.

The storm resulted damage of makeshift shops, mud-built houses and semi-pucca schools and colleges. Branches of roadside trees were broken down and polls of billboards and signboards uprooted.

Individuals expressed their concern about the loss due to the damage of mango and litchi gardens in the district.

An observer of Rajshahi meteorology office Debal Kumar Maitra told banglanews the speed of the storm was 70/80 km per hour. Besides, 12mm rain also was recorded.

Station officer of Rajshahi Fire Service and Civil Defense Shariful Islam said they have been working to clear the broken tree branches on the roads of the town.

Rajshahi electricity development board engineer Shahinul Islam said they started sending technicians to repair the damaged electricity lines.
