Elephants kill BGB man in Cox’s Bazar

COX’S BAZAR: A Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) member was killed in an attack by a herd of wild elephants near Himchhari hill under Ramu Upazila early Thursday.

The deceased was identified as Lance Nayek Habibur Rahaman of East Chandkathi area of Jhalakathi district.

Commander of Cox's Bazar 17 BGB Battalion Colonel Khalequzzaman confirmed the matter to banglanews.
 
The commander said that a 19-member BGB team, led by Subedar Nurul Islam, conducted raid in a nearby area of the hill around 1:30am to nab a group of people, who gathered there to go to Malaysia illegally.

At one stage, a herd of three wild elephants attacked the BGB caravan and several houses in the area, located near the hill. As Habibur failed to escape the scene an elephant crushed him under its leg, killing him on the spot.

The body was kept at the district Sadar Hospital.
